Can you plug a 3 pin system fan into a 4 pin motherboard header?

I've been browsing solutions to my issue but none have been decisive. MOBO: Gigabyte ga-ab350n Gaming Wifi. Case: Thermaltake Core v1 ITX Case

Fan headers have fool-proof insertion key for 3 or 4 pin fans.

Smart Fan 5 Settings

Fan Control Mode

[Auto] Lets the BIOS automatically detect the type of fan/pump installed and sets the optimal control mode. (Default)

[Voltage] Voltage mode is recommended for a 3-pin fan.

[PWM] PWM mode is recommended for a 4-pin fan.
