Can you put a DVD-RW into a Mac computer?

I"m trying to use imovie for my brother's graduation, and I want to import a few home videos, but the home videos are all on DVD-RW's and I'm not sure how to put them on the computer. Usually, if I insert a CD, I push it in a little way and then the computer sort of "eats it." But it didn't do that with the DVD-RW and I don't want it to get stuck. So, how do I get the movies onto my computer?

If it is a DVD drive it should work!
