[SOLVED] Can you record external audio output through combo jack?

I need to record the audio of my TV, which has an output jack. Is it possible to configure my laptop's combo jack in a way that lets me record the stereo signal from the TV? If not, can this be achieved, if I connect the cable from the TV to the microphone part of a combo jack splitter, or would that be too strong of an input for a microphone line?

Most probably, your laptop' combo jack is for microphone input, and TV headphones jack produces much higher voltage.

An adapter with proper "line-in" like this will be much better option.
