Can you record on demand shows with a tv tuner?

Im thinking of buying a tv but im not sure if I could record on demand programming. Is this possiable? and do I need anything special to do it?

hi, with some tv tuners, in my knowledge you dont need to have anything else to record your favorite tv shows, just the tv tuner working fine in your machine. here two of then that do that:

Avertv Hybrid Volar Max
HP KS523AA USB TV Tuner

don´t know how good they are.
