Sup, I am looking to buy an AsRock 970 Pro3 and with that board some 2133mhz ram for super cheap (2x 4gbs for 70$ @ 2133mhz!!!!) because its on sale. The board only supports 2000+ OC the normal supported memory is up to 1866mhz. so my question is if i can set the ram speed in thhe bios from 2133mhz to 1600mhz which is good for gaming or will my system not boot if i install it? because the 1600mhz version of the same ram costs the same and if i plan on getting any future updates like a new mobo

Solution
If your mobo does not support higher frequency than 1866Mhz and you are considering to buy ram at 2133Mhz go ahead because the mobo will automatically downclock your ram speed to the supported, and will work perfecly fine.
