Can you swap modular PSU cables?

Hi all,

Just wondering if I bought the OCZ Technology ZX Series 1000W or 1250W, if I could swap the cables provided by OCZ with some Bitfenix factory sleeved extension/modular cables?

The modular adapters or plugs on the PSU where you plug the modular cables look the exact same as the connectors on the end but male. So the female end of the Bitfenix sleeved cables should fit in fine.

So just wondering if these cables would work fine as the cables connected to the PSU instead of the standard OCZ cables that come with the PSU?

Here are links for the PSU and the Bitfenix cables:

(Just so you can compare the inputs and connectors yourselves cause i could be wrong, but they all look like they would match)

Solution
Cables are usually pretty stupid, they usually just consist of one or more wires that let electricity flow from point A to point B. A different piece of metal of the same dimensions will usually do the exact same thing.

I don't know that these two sets of wires are equivalent and I don't care to research long enough to find out either, but you are more than welcome to.

The guage (thickness) of the wire matters. Thicker metal wires transfer power differently than thinner metal wires.

That being said, My gut feeling is that it would not destroy any components if you switched them. They probably really are the exact same.

If it were me, I would probably spend about half a day trying to research everything on the internet, come up with nothing that says 100% either way, and I would just try it.

No
They are "extension cables", not modular cables.
You can use them in conjunction with any psu, as an "extension cable".
If you were to connect them to your psu you would also have to connect your modular cables to them, because the Bitfenix cables are "extension cable's" not modular cables.
Gettin it ?
Just in case you're not;
Look at the ends of a modular pcie cable, they match, as in same gender.

Now look at the ends of a pcie "extension cable" , no match

Solution
I bet you could take a Molex extractor tool and remove the pins from the mismatched end on the extension cable and swap with the correct end from the modular cable. Just a thought.
