Can you take everything from a computer and stick it in a regular empty disk on a Windows XP DELL boot menu?

I have an old Windows XP computer that is missing the ntoskrnl.exe file (a common problem) and I don't have a installation card to fix it with. So I was wondering if I can wipe the computer with an empty disk WITHOUT logging on

Yes, you can wipe a drive without logging in but not using Windows. I would use this and make a bootable DVD: http://www.dban.org/download

scary that xp can just lose the ntoskrnl file as PC won't work without it.
