With a NF-488 tester, can you test an ethernet cable while it is connected to a switch, by connecting the other end to the RJ 45 port of the NF-488?
Or is it necessary to disconnect the cable altogether from the switch and have the open end connect to the "wiremap" device that came with the NF-488?
(The switch is located at a hard-to-access place, so it's preferred to not have to go to the switch.)

You could test POE. I don't think you can verify wire continuity.

Regarding testing the Ethernet cable while connected to the switch....

Question:

If the Ethernet cable is connected to the switch and the continuity test fails then how would you know if the problem was in the cable or in the switch?

Just wondering.
