Can you turn a notebook keyboard into an usb keyboard?

If you remove all electronics from a notebook, can you make the keyboard into a wired usb keyboard?
If you can, is it a matter of wiring or would it require additional hardware and software, in other words not be a practical task?

It's a matter of wiring, micro-circuitry and casing.

In other words: it's definitely not practical.

I am not knowledgeable about this. My reading is, find an usb keyboard circuit that matches the notebook's ribbon connector. Then set the keys in the software.
