I have a Satellite L755-S5166 and the hard drive went bad. It had a 640GB hard drive and my husband purchased a 500GB hard drive.
I put the new hard drive in but when I put in my restore disc it goes through the discs but when it completes the 4th disc it it asks for the next discs. I hit cancel and it says it to click to shut down. I do this and when it comes back on it goes to a screen which says initilizing partition and it gets stuck there.

Do I have to use the same hard drive size or larger for my recovery cd's to work?''

I hope someone can give me some information.

Solution
You don't have to use the same size or brand HD for the recovery. Because you hit the cancel that means you don't done the reinstall the win7 yet. And the laptop got stuck there.

You can try again. Or you can use the other method like in the link: How to Clean Reinstall a Factory OEM Windows 7. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html

You do the following: 1) Download the win7 ISO file from that link. 2) Also download the drivers from Toshiba website. 3) Put the ISO into the DVD. 4) Install the win7 and the drivers. And you are set.

I forget the win7 key should be in the laptop bottom.

Solution
It will not matter if the drive is 500GB.
You should have the complete set of restore discs.
If you have four and it is asking for five discs then the restore setup is not complete. Setup of the partition will not complete otherwise, cancelling it on the four disc when it asks for a another will mess it all up.

Double check there are no more discs, or you will just have to go out and buy a new copy of the windows OS.

Thanks, I will try this
