I'm curious as to whether or not I could wipe a hard drive clean while I have it connected to a docking station(which is connected to my main tower)

this is the one I'm considering

http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Docking-Station-DS-UBLK/dp/B00IKAQ538/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1428981933&sr=1-1&keywords=hard+drive+docking+station

I have to transfer files from hard drives/ssd very often, and usually have to return them wiped clean. Just curious if I could do this while they're connected via docking station?

Solution
Definitely. If your system sees it as an external storage volume with a drive letter (like when you put in a USB thumb drive) then you can move files, save them, erase the partition, or re partition the drive. You can even image a drive in a dock if you have the software for it.
