What happens when I force shut down my PC while it is uninstalling everything off from the HDD together with Windows 8.1 itself?

Solution

the old hdd is a goner.
Then do what you just type.
the cdkey is valid for the computer - mainly the motherboard, not hdd.

That is what I am doing now, however it is now 9 hours of waiting and its only on 5%. I was wondering about cancelling it and plugging brand new HDD as this one is old and has problems.

Shall I just force shut down the PC, plug in brand new HDD, insert Windows 8.1 disk and try to install it? There will be no problems if the same Windows with the same cd-key is already used on the old unplugged HDD?

But yesterday I started up my PC and a pop-up from Windows saying ''Your HDD has problems, do not use this PC until the problem is fixed''. My HDD was working really slowly and it probs has a malfunction and that is why it takes so long.

Shall I just turn off the power in the middle of the formatting process, unplug HDD, put new one and install the Windows on it? Or the Windows wont install as the cd-key is used on the HDD which is getting formatted?
