I had an old router in my store room. So i wanted to do wireless ethernet bridging using my asus rt-n12hp router since my pc only has ethernet port as its way of getting internet. I managed to install tomato firmware. I forgot what i did but now it seems that i cant even get into the tomato admin page. When i typed ipconfig /all , my ip became 169.254.40.179 and theres no default gateway. Right now im not connected to a network.. just plugged my cable to my pc to change the settings. I tried reseting the router both normal reset and hard reset(30/30/30) and i plugged it in my friends pc which gives the same result. Any ideas to fix this? Im not sure what i did but it has to do with changing some ip. I was following a tutorial that i saw online. Even if i gave a static ip and default gateway i still cant connect to the admin page. Heres my ipconfig result

i even tried reinstalling the ethernet driver. 1 more thing if i use wireless ethernet bridging, would the speed be better than just using wifi? and if my router is unable to be used, is there something i can use for wireless ethernet bridging besides using a router?

Solution
So the expression "bricked" means it as useful as a brick, it is completely broken and now basically a paperweight.

Soft bricked would mean that you can fix it
Hard bricked would mean it is finished.

Doing the 30/30/30 is go to first thing to try for any dd-wrt/tomato firmware installs.
Asus does a better job than most and has a much more resiliant recovery mode: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/355070/Asus-Rt-N12.html?page=37
It has been awhile since I have flashed tomato to asus router so I dont remember if you have to use recovery mode to do the tomato update or not.
If you do then follow your flash instructions after the point of entering recovery mode.
If not then I would try to revert it back to stock asus firmware first, and...
So first and foremost either you are not properly resetting the router, or it is completely bricked.
I have an asus rt-n12 running tomato setup as a bridge so I know there is no issue with doing so.

If router is bricked you can attempt to put it into recover mode to reflash tomato to it, but more likely than not it is hard bricked.

In regards to quesiton about wireless bridge vs wifi card: Most router's have equal or better hadware then the wifi cards. Router/wireless bridge should pretty much always get at minimum equal if not slightly better speed/range.

Now with that said the better solution to the problem is to use av1000 or faster powerline adapter kit. These connect to router and PC via ethernet and use your power wires in the house to send traffic between them; they will provide faster speeds, and lower latency then wifi

Wow thx for the reply.. my curiosity has finally been answered.. about the brick router.. what does router thst has been bricked mean? And whats hard bricked? If im not mistaken to go recover mode is by doing the hard reset right? And what do i do if its hard bricked? Sry for asking so many questions tho.. i thought i knew a lot about routers and connection but damn i was only on the surface of it
