cannon pixma mx870 msg says unplug and take for repair: Is there anything I can try first?

my pixma mx870 will not print at all. The printer screen says unplug and take to repairman. Any suggestions?

Buy a new printer, repairs are not cost-effective anyway. Would cost almost as much to repair as buying a new one, only to stop working again next week when something else breaks on it.

Is there any error code that your printer display? Can You provide a bit more info how this happend?
