I have an at&t uverse router as my main router. My desktop is connected to the internet wireless via the main router by a secure password authentification. I decided to add a second router via a wired RJ45 lan Ethernet connection with the intent of creating a second wireless/wifi access point so that guests could connect to my internet signal with their wifi enabled devices. My desktop connects to the main router via a wifi signal transmitted by that router. I would like my guests to be able to connect to my internet signal via the secondary router. I wanted to keep my personal and private internet connection separate and secure from my guests connection to my internet service. I am able to access the main routers settings and control page but when I try to access the secondary routers control page it will not load. I have to get to that page so I can create a password specific for my guests to be able to access my internet via that router. Also, do I need to use the WAN port on the secondary router or can I just use one of the four LAN ports.? My main router is a AT&T uverse router. My secondary router is a SMC SMCWBR14-G Barricade g / 2.4GHz 54Mbps Wireless Broadband Router. How do I get to the settings control page of that router? Any help would be appreciated.

If you go LAN->LAN you won't be able to get separations. Because they will be on the same layer 2 broadcast and the ips don't mean a lot until you try and reach the web or another gateway.

LAN->WAN will have issues. The guest being on the first router will allow you to do what you want. They could still try and sniff packets, which is more about how well you trust who you give the pw to. Packets probably won't cross their NICs really either. If there is a setting for promiscuous mode, don't allow it.

With the guest on the 2nd in a LAN->WAN your going to have issues routing the packet to the correct gateway and also the 2nd routers NAT will block it without port forwarding. You will need to connect to the guest in order to reach it's...

Unless the SMC is set up as an AP with an IP address in the same subnet as the ATT router, you'll need to connect directly to the SMC in order to access the settings.

In any case, setting up the SMC behind the ATT router does nothing to secure your LAN. In fact, with the SMC set up as a NAT device, your guests will be more secure from you. They would still have full access to anything on your LAN.

Check your ATT router to see if it has a guest wifi feature. Otherwise, you'll need a router with guest access (ATT router in bridge mode to avoid double NAT), or purchase a firewall device to keep your guest network separate from your own.
