Cannot boot from USB on Asus Motherboard

I have just finished a new build using the Asus Maximus Vi Impact motherboard and I've updated the bios to 1402 x64.

I cannot for the life of me, however, get it to boot from a USB I've made containing the Windows 7 installer (one that I acquired and one from the official site (X17-24395)).

I've googled and googled and tried all different things but they all end up with the same result: a flashing underscore that either stays flashing indefinitely or flashes for around 20 seconds then gives up and goes back into the bios.

The only computer I have working is a mac so I've tried creating the usb with Boot Camp Assistant and with a utility called unetbootin. I've also tried using a USB hard drive I have as well as the usb stick.

Within the bios, at the suggestion of many google searches I have tried combinations of the following: disabling fast boot, setting secure boot to 'Other Oses', disabling secure boot, setting the usb configuration to HDD or auto etc etc.

Also, I am given two options at the boot menu for the one usb stick:

SanDisk (15267MB)

and

UEFI: SanDisk (15267MB)

But it doesn't seem to make any difference which I choose.

Any help would be massively appreciated, I've never, ever had any trouble installing windows in the past so this is massively confusing.
