Cannot boot into Windows 10 or Ubuntu - black screen - tried bootloader and mbr recovery commands, chkdisk, W10 DVD utilities

Hi, I am writing this from Windows 10 safe mode (with networking).

Yesterday I was looking for tips to get some free space on my system disk (I have an SSD with Windows and Ubuntu and 2 data HDDs - i try to keep most data there), and I read it is safe to remove AMD folder from C:\ and also to use Windows utility to remove some system files (like installation files), so I did.

Then I went on to play Space Engine, and after a while (when I tried to land on a black hole) the game freezed up, I couldn't even get menu to open Process Manager, so I was forced to do soft reset (holding power button for 5 seconds). Now, I am used to Space Engine not always working well on my system, and it tends to crash for me. Abruptly shutting off computer never caused problems for me, so I didn't expect otherwise.

But when the GRUB menu appeared, it was bigger (wrong resolution) and normal Windows loader missing. When I tried to load Ubuntu or Windows RE, it appeared to load but then only showed a black screen. WRE only loads if I do something else before, like run memcheck or Win 8.1 installation DVD (i upgraded to W10 after that) before that, that is how I am able to get to the Safe Mode. Clearly the systems and all the files are there, but something went awry with something.

Speaking of WRE and W8.1 DVD, none of their recovery utilities worked for me (they only created some error log somewhere), and if I can I don't want to reinstall the whole system. I tried searching for troubleshooting tips online, found commands to recover bootloaders, that did nothing else than making the system want to load WRE directly instead of going into GRUB, so it made my situation a bit worse.

Also there are graphical artifacts everywhere now, though in my current situation they aren't that big of a priority. I tried installing the newest drivers while in Safe Mode, but it displays Error 99, that the driver wasn't digitally signed, and I can't temporarily turn it off in WRE, because it again doesn't boot after that. I am just trying to use AMD Catalyst autodetect utility instead of installing the driver directly (edit: it gave the same error).

What happened? What else is there to try to fix this mess? Thank you very much for your answers.

Copy your drive to your backup USB attached external drive.

reset win10. It will leave your data and replace your current windows with a new copy. You will need to reload applications and do some hunting in the windows.old folder to find some of your stuff. When you get it running set up win10 to do backups of your system to the external drive.

"..What happened?.." At a guess you deleted files your system needed, so when it tried to find the files it choked, then you did not have a backup strategy so that you could not restore these files or your complete system.
