In desperate need of some help to fix my pc after installing a new WD 4TB caviar black.
I installed the hdd without touching the existing 1TB caviar black or the SSD (C drive) and encountered no monitor signal after the 'windows is starting' screen had disappeared. I tried first starting in safe mode and activating the new HDD as GPT and assigned to D drive (it was automatically assigned to disk 0 and my C drive assigned to disk 2).
After successfully formatting and activating the new drive in safe mode I tried starting windows normally but again no signal. Then I checked bios to see that a UEFI drive was assigned as first in boot order and my ssd was not available as an option, so I then tried forcing the boot, again to no avail. I then tried disconnecting the new drive and rebooting but still ran into the same problem. Next step was to try repairing windows using the CD (windows 7 64bit) but I received an error that I cannot repair windows automatically. Next effort was to try system restore using the windows cd which was also unsuccessful, then tried same again in safe mode but no luck. Finally after trawling numerous online forums for a resolution I tried one last fix using bcdboot.exe in command prompt to reinstate the bootmgr file but still no good! I'm running out of ideas and getting worried that I might have to reinstall windows and all 1TB of games as well as possibly sacrificing all of my other data and settings (which may not even solve the problem).
I will add that at the same time I installed the new HDD that I had also installed the asus xonar essence stx sound card but can't imagine this would have triggered the issue. Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated.
