Cannot burn on dvd-rw, write protection?

Hello,I am trying to burn a software on my blank DVD-RW for my class to do an assignment but I cannot. I have been waiting for dialog box to pop up after I load it into my computer but the light keep blinking on the drive. What do I need to do?

I notice that my DVD drive is ROM meaning that I cannot burn?

that is correct a dvd-rom can not write dvd's
