I have 2008 model laptop 802.11 b/g wireless LAN and although my laptop detects wifi networks (I enter the network key) still I am unable to connect to WiFi with out Ethernet cable. If I unplug Ethernet cable internets gone.

Can I not connect with out the cable?

Solution
Well of-course you will have internet with a cable, that is a direct connection to your router/modem, that does not mean that your WiFi is working with the cable in. Did this work before and stopped? If it worked before what changed since it was working? Are there any errors in Device Manager, especially under network section? Is your network showing up in the wireless network list? What happens after you enter your password? Did you try to reset the router?
under wireless network connection it says unidentified network and in task bar I get a small yellow mark over wireless status. still with ethernet cable in I get internet (I have attached the pics) http://

I have a Atheros drive, I was also given Broadcom should I install both the drivers?

when I enter network key it accepts and gets connected then it show limited access/some times connected in network list but no internet access with out Ethernet cable. If I plug in the Ethernet cable then I get the internet.

I diagnosed it, it says "the default gate way is not available" "DHCP is not enabled for Wireless Network Connection"

I went to IPv4 properties:

IP address: I entered IPv4 address from cmd (cmd /k ipconfig /all)
Subnet mask:
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Preferred DNS: IPv4 address again
Alternate DNS: got this from cmd

I am not sure if I got these ryt? should I really need to enter all these

It still says DHCP not enabled. I tried apply fix from diagnosis status shows as connected but no internet.

once i plug in the cable I get internet? I don't get it. Can u trouble shoot me in steps?

WTF I solved it. I just went to the adapter properties clicked on updated my drive its fixed just like that, that yellow exclamatory mark is gone. Now I am able to connect with out cable.

You mean the SSID? This is just the name of a network. Abusineeses may have floor 1, floor 2, and floor 3 for their wireless connections so their users know which one to connect to. If you set up the SSID to your name, you can easily change it it the router settings. I set mine to something like FBI Mobile Unit #1. Usually keeps people away from trying to connect to it.

yes SSID, I know how to change it but can I hide it from not appearing on the network list.

yes I found it, now its asking me to enter my ssid name and after that network key then I am connected. It still shows in Wireless Network Connections as Other Network.

But what I was expecting is to not show any thing in the network list. I guess that's not possible?

How do I remove other networks from the list. I got it after hiding ssid, later I had my ssid visible and I got connected as well (pic attached http://postimg.org/image/gvfeqmrpf/) but how to remove the other network from the list I don't need it.

You can't, it will pick up any wifi signal in the area and show it to you unless it's hidden. No need to bother with it though, you never need to go there unless you are switching connections.

Did you manually set the wireless connection IP setting and copied the settings from the ethernet connection? You don't want to do that, that is probably why it was not working. You created an IP conflict and very likely did not enter some needed settings.
