Cannot connect to internet

Hi ,

I have my daughters acer aspire here . It seems to recognise our wifi but will not connect to the internet .
My dell laptop does ?? To be honest i think she has had a good fiddle with all the settings and i dont have a clue where to start . Any help with starting from the beginning would be appreciated . Its Vista .
