I just upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 and I have a leftover windows.old folder in my C drive and I can't delete it. It says I need permission but I've already given the user full control through properties->security. I don't understand why it's like this..

I don't recommend to delete that folder! you are going to have a bad time if you do it. It's there because you have done an upgrade. It's kind of like you are running windows 8 but on top of 7. It still need access to some Win7 resources for the upgrade to work.

What you Can do is a Fresh installation of windows but back up your applications and documents first, as damian86 said dont delete it u need it, if you dont plan on going back to win 7, then you better off doing fresh install.

i deleted my windows old after upgrade

havent had any issues

though i backed it up to an external drive just to be on the safe side

this will usually delete those stubborn files/folders
