I have Win 7 with a hiberfil.sys file that I do not want.
I have tried to delete it (and prevent it from returning) but none of these attempts work.
I drop to the command liney and type
powercfg.exe -h off
but I am told 'You do not have permission to enable or disable the Hibernate feature'.
And yet I DO log in as the administrator!
And I just checked Control Panel - User Accounts, and this confirms I am logged in as the Administrator, so why is cmd prompt refusing to accept me as the Administrator?
I found an internet page that said :
"Search for cmd. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator."
But no such text appears on my PC. On dropping to Command I just get:
C:>
I've now spent (wasted) so much time on this, it's ridiculous.
Is there something else I should be doing in the Control Panel?
I looked at Control Panel - Power Options, and the 'Balanced' is the option selected.
I clicked on 'Change Plan Setting' and this has 'Never' against the 'Put the computer to sleep' option. I changed this to '15 minutes' as an experiment, but the cmd still refuses to recognize me as the Administrator.
I wondered if I booted up with a Linux and tried to delete the hiberfil.sys file that way, but I thought this might create problems when next booting up with Win 7.
Can anyone help me PLEASE?
Thanks
Martin
PS. I have read postings on this site about this issue but none work for me. I
have gone to Power Options and then 'Change when computer sleeps' on lefthand side and then entered 'Never', but again, on trying to delete the file in cmd, I am told that I cannot do this as I need to be the administrator - and yet I am, and the Control Panel User Accounts also confirms this...
