Cannot delete suspicious file

Hello, I downloaded a game and when it finished downloading a windows popped up saying, that it may be dangerous, so I decided to delete it. There was a rar file, which I removed and now there is exe file (I didnt opened it) which somehow cant be deleted. When I simple press Delete, it will start deleting it, but nothing happens, the status bar is not "filling", same thing at iObit shredder or AVG shredder. I think it may be something bad. It looks like it has some selfdefense or what. Somethimes a little bubble shows up at the down right corner saying that some program (I think it was vprot.exe and avg.exe) is damaged or what and says, that I need to run CHKDSK or something like that.


After several restarts and one CHKDSK I managed to put the file in recycle bin, it has a icon of the game and not just a white icon so I thought that something is better. But now, when it is in the recycle bin, the situation is the same- I cant delete it from the bin.

If you can download and install a different antivirus like malware bytes, run a full scan while in safe mode with networking and it should remove it. Hope this helps.

Get to desktop. Hit controll alt del to bring up Task Manager, select Processes tab. Find that .exe if it's there, highlight it and select END PROCESS, then try deleting the offending file.

I ll try it. Just now the AVG shredding finished and it says, that the file is used by another program. It is possible, when it is in the bin?

edit- thats the problem, it isnt in the task managar, I tried that already. At least I dont see it there, or something suspicious.

You may have a trojan horse virus, these can possibly disable your antivirus by corrupting the files

So this is why you need to download another antivirus and run a virus scan in safe mode with networking. Its not good to simply delete a program, because the virus can hideout in many different places.

You can go into task manager and remove the process to delete the file, but only if you are 100% sure it is not a virus

The process isnt it the task manager. And I tried to run the safe mode with networking and it started to load it and when it came to something like avg(something) and it stopped and some "distort" or simply some strange pixels so I restarted it, or should I wait when the safe mode is loading?

Try waiting, its normal for the screen to be "distorted" in safe mode, because it only loads the basic graphics drivers

Haha, well if the antivirus doesn't remove anything there's a chance you can completely delete the file in safe mode, since it only loads the basic processes it should work too.

Weell, it looks like it is done. I tried again to empty the recycle bin and it worked.... at least I think. I am gonna do some tests right now just in case. Thanks for your help. I will know, that I can work with things like this in safe mode..... and I ll stop downloading games from unknown websites. 😀
