Cannot download Update for Windows XP (KB898461)

I'm tired of messing with this ... round and round in circles I've been going with Microsoft updates & download sites.. comes back to the same thing:
I'm unable to download Update for Windows XP (KB898461).

Without that, it seems impossible to properly do full updates on Windows XP complete with security updates, etc.

Any suggestions, OTHER than reformatting (or using the computer as an anchor)?

You should not be worried over lack of updates. Stop obsessing.
Many computers have problems with at least one...
and there is a group that has shut off updates completely, and has shown little to worry about (including me). I became weary of updating...
sometimes disabling all security and firewall before updating, some security may be blocking access or conflicting with the update.
If you have been installing free downloads on your system, that are from third parties, it's not unusual for the system to become corrupted. That is also a common problem.
