Hi,

Yesterday I put together my own computer. It's great, but I have one problem and I don't know if it's the computer itself or windows..

I have a Belkin F5D7050 USB Wireless G network card and it won't connect to windows xp. It tried using on Linux (ubuntu 10.04 live cd) and it works perfectly. But when I boot into windows, it doesn't. I have installed all the drivers and software I could find for it. But the programs for it don't open at all and for some reason i cant even configure it using windows "Connect to". (You know how usually you get the little wireless icon at the bottom of the screen and stuff)

Thanks for any advce you may have for me :)

Does it appear in Windows Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager or is it yellow flagged as faulty ?

Yes it does come up in device manager, and yes it has a yellow icon next to it. It states:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

Have another look at the disc which came with the wireless adapter and see if the driver on it matches your version of Windows (are you using 64bit ?).

If not have a look at Belkin's support site.

As this is a new computer, check that other USB devices work in it.

I don't have a disk for it, I got it from someone else who didn't need it. And they couldn't find the cd when they gave it to me. That's why I've been searching the Internet for a driver that actually works.. And yes I've tried belkins site. Haha I've tried everything.

I'm using 32-bit

It does seem to be a driver issue as you say the unit works in Linux. The trick may be to identify which chipset it uses (should be Google findable try "Belkin F5D7050 which chipset" ) and use a generic driver for that chipset (they often come with utilities too).

As far as Windows is concerned make sure you have SP2 installed as Belkin's utilities seem linked to that.

Be interesting to know if the issue with the other driver was to do with version number of the wireless adapter -- I've noticed that Belkin are less than crystal clear on that issue!
