I'm going to post this to a few forums around the web because the Dell forum has led to zero suggestions.
Background: Had to update my Transcend SSD's firmware in the process of troubleshooting some crashing issues in Win 10 Anniversary Edition. In order to update the SSD firmware, which requires booting from a USB drive, I had to change the secure boot to legacy in the BIOS. No big deal, I figured, I'd just switch it back to secure boot when I was done. Wrong... now I can't enter the BIOS at all. Pressing F2 (How to enter BIOS on a Dell) and also F12 (boot menu) yield nothing and it continues booting. To clarify, when I press F2 or F12 during POST, the system acknowledges it, because the "Press F2 to enter Setup" highlights in bold, but it never enters the BIOS. It just keeps on booting.
I've done a lot of troubleshooting and have tried pretty much everything that comes to mind. I know the BIOS has nothing to do with the OS, but I had some time so tried a lot of random stuff in the off hope it'd work.
1) Tried to re-flash the BIOS (there is no update) with the existing BIOS.
2) Disconnected the SSD and CMOS battery, hoping it would force me into the BIOS, but instead it brought me to a weird PXE Boot page and then an OS not found page, followed by a 10-sec continuous beep.
3) Even installed Winows 7 successfully, and it works great, but still can't access the BIOS. (So yes while I can get into an OS, I want to go back to Win 10 and don't like the idea of not being able to access the BIOS or boot menu for the rest of my time owning this laptop)
I've read every related thread on google; most which have no solutions, and the solutions that were accepted on some threads were the things I tried here with no luck.
Not to be rude here but I'm a PC tech by day so I don't need to be reminded of basic stuff like how to enter a BIOS, that a BIOS has nothing to do with an OS, or suggest I just stick with Windows 7. If anyone has resolved a similar issue, please please please chime in; or if you're highly experienced with BIOS management or whatever, let me know. If you can help me, I'll buy you a six pack or something via Pay Pal
Think I covered it all here.
Thanks,
Dave
