Hi.

This one is driving me nuts.

I downloaded Freemake Converter two years ago, tried it once, then uninstalled it.
Can't remember if I used Windows/Control Panel/Program/Uninstall or if Freemake itself had an uninstaller to use.

Haven't thought about the program again until last week, when I started having occasional system shutdowns and found FreemakeUtilsService.exe listed as a Critical Item at the time of the shutdown in my Event Logger.

I went back and looked, had a couple of Freemake Folders, with the FreemakeUtilsService EXE in one of them.
Also had two lines in Registry that said FREEMAKE.
Also could see several processes/services named Freemake in Task Manager.

I have deleted the Registry items.
After some work where I needed to change Priviledges, it allowed me to delete the folders.
(Neither folder had an UNINSTALL.)
There is no Freemake listed in Control Panel/Programs or in the Start Menu.
There is no Freemake in STARTUP.

But I still have Freemake Improver showing up in SERVICES (it is listed as STOPPED).
And I cannot get rid of the damn thing!

I've tried looking with Revo uninstaller, no Freemake.
I've tried a full scan with Windows Defender, with nothing found.

I've seen that FreemakeUtilsService.exe may (MAY) be a trojan.
Or it could just be a poor uninstall.

But I've had these system shutdowns over the last week (averaging 1-2 a night, only while playing 7 Days, although not at the most GPU intensive moments), and it keeps showing Freemake at that time in the events logger.

I just want the darn thing GONE, gone, GONE.

So....help?
(And thank you.)

are you taking about removing from services?

did you do a file search on that exe?

run 'freefixer'....

select all references to whatever it is you are trying to remove (in this case, whatever 'FreeMakeUtils' is), which will select them for deletion....

Click 'fix'...!

Here is a link that should prove helpful:

First look to determine if there are references to free fixer.

Then try suggested removal options.

However, stay out of the Registry. Registry editing is a last resort. (Likewise for 3rd party uninstallers.)

And should be attempted only if all important data and the Registry is backed up at least 2 x to locations off of the current host computer.

Which should be being done anyway.....

Verify that the backups are recoverable and readable.
