Hi

So I recently bought a Gigabyte H81M-S2PV motherboard and I'm trying to update its BIOS. As far as I know of updating BIOS, I should put the files in a USB Drive and install them while booting... So I download a zip file containing 3 files named autoexec.bat Efiflash.exe H81MS2PV.F7 and put them in a FAT32 formatted USB Drive and restart the computer and then... Just nothing. A screen that says "No Operation System found". Can anyone help me? What is it I'm doing wrong?!

Solution
GA-H81M-S2PV (rev. 2.0) latest BIOS is FB. If you have that then you don't need an update.

Motherboard revision number is printed on lower left corner of the motherboard.
There are three different revisions of the motherboard, each uses a different BIOS.

There are several ways to update the BIOS. I will relate the EFI Flash Tool in DOS Mode method.

You only need the EFI Flash Exe file and the BIOS File, the Autoexec file can be discarded. Make a note of the BIOS File name as you will need this information later in the process and if you don't get this part correctly you will not be able to update the BIOS.

Create the Bootable Flash drive using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.
Select a USB Drive that has a capacity of 4GB or less, and can be formatted FAT32 (erasing all existing data).
Also download the Windows 98 MS-DOS System Files.
You can usually find these items by searching the internet.

Once you make the bootable USB Flash drive, try it out. It may look empty, unless the option to show protected operating system files is checked in folder options, Windows will hide these files due to their attributes matching that of system files. Don't worry, the relevant files are still there.

Flashing in DOS mode with EFI Flash Tool:

Copy the Efiflash exe and BIOS file onto the USB Flash drive

Reboot the PC and press F12 to go to the BOOT Menu.

Select the USB Flash drive and press enter, this will take you into the DOS environment.

At the C:/ prompt type: Efiflash and press enter. This will start the Efiflash tool.

At the C:/ prompt type: efiflash xxxxxx.xx (replace the x's with the name of your BIOS File that you noted earlier) IMPORTANT: Make sure that you insert a space between the words efiflash and the BIOS name. Also make sure you enter the full point (.) before the BIOS version number. Press enter.

The BIOS Flashing process is now done and there is no further input required. The first stage you will see that the BIOS is being erased. The 2nd stage the BIOS is written and the 3rd stage the BIOS is verified.

Let the process complete and it will reboot back into Windows. Don't interrupt the process.

I don't understand. My BIOS version is "FB" not "F8" - and the BIOS date is also the same, 2014/06/20. How can it be the same if it's not the latest version? Which is (and it seems that it should be) F8. What is it I'm not seeing here?
