Cannot install Fx 5600

I cannot install my FX 5600 256Mb card,when i start my machine i can hear my ventilator but that`s about it..the system just won`t start...i got a black screen.
I`m now running on a ATI 9000Pro 128Mb card and i`ve successfully installed a friends 4200ti card in the passed.
Could it be the power alimentation ? I think i got 300w.
Do these new card require more ?

I would unistall the ati drivers before installing the nvidia card, and maybe update your agp driver from the chipset maker before you make the switch. I would think 300w is enough but if its some off brand power supply who knows if yor getting good power from it.
