[SOLVED] Cannot Install OS's on ASROCK 990FX

I have a new AMD 8 core processor, 32GB RAM, with a ASROCK 990FX Extreme board. And no matter what OS I try to install, it always locks up - except Windows Server 2016, which installs fin, including various Linux flavors. I've disabled / enabled Secure Boot, and tried with UEFI as well as Legacy. I've changed drives and RAM. Tried with different CD/DVD media, and different flash drives. Any ideas?

Is that a 32 gb kit of ram or a couple of 16 gb kits put together? Could be some instability there

Sounds like a ram issue to me.. are you using all slots of the ram.. I would try 1 then try installing a OS you have issues with.. also make sure you are not OCing anything.. make sure the bios is updated etc..

This is 4 sticks of 8 GB RAM, 10600. I've tried different speeds and manufacturers as well.

I have not OC'd anything at all. I have tried different video cards as well. I have not tried just one memory slot. I'll give that a shot when I get home.

I didn't ask what it was. We're they purchased as a 4 stick not, or did you buy 2 kits and put them together?

Sorry for the confusion. The RAM was bought as a 4-stick set. I didn't buy different sets, just the one. Thanks.

Okay then it shouldn't be the issue but I do suggest attempting to install Windows with a single stick either way just to help.decide what might be going on. Also you said new cpu, what about the motherboard?

Thank you. Yes, the MB is brand new. ASROCK 990FX Extreme3. None of the hardware has been previously used.

You are trying to run a 220w cpu on a motherboard with a poorly cooled 4+1 VRM setup. 4+1 setups struggle with 125w cpus. With a 220w CPU best case is VRM throttling and instability, worst case is the VRMs burst into flames.

If this is a completely new build, I'd return everything and get a current gen Ryzen.
