Hi, this is my first post and I am quite a novice at the technical side of computers.

Here is my problem.

I am using a Dell Dimension 9200

I am trying to install Windows Vista (as it came with PC) from the original disk. When I get to the screen that asks "Where do you want to install Windows?" it shows the following:
Disk 0 Unallocated space, Total size = 465.7GB, Free Space = 465.7GB, Type = blank.
If i try to create a partition i get the error code [0x80042453]
It won't let me install and this is where my options sort of end.

It was suggested to me to wipe my hard drive and then the install should be clean.
I went to diskpart in the command prompt. When I did 'list disk' I got the following, notably with no drive 0:

Disk ###, Status, Size, Free, Dyn, Gpt
Disk 1, No Media, 0B, 0B
Disk 2, No Media, 0B, 0B
Disk 3, No Media, 0B, 0B
Disk 4, No Media, 0B, 0B

I then select 0 which it allows me to do (seems strange as not listed).
If i try to create a partition using "create partition primary" i get the following error:

Virtual Disk Service error:
The systems information about the object may not be up to date.
Disk part has referenced an object which is not up-to-date.
Refresh the object by using the RESCAN command.
If the problem persists exit DiskPart, then restart DiskPart or restart the computer.

If I 'list volume' with Disk 0 selected I get the following:

Volume ###, Ltr, Label, Fs Type, Size, Status, Info
Volume 0, G, label = blank, Fs = blank, Type = Removable, Size=0B, Status = No Media
Volume 1, C, label = blank, Fs = blank, Type = Removable, Size=0B, Status = No Media
Volume 2, F, label = blank, Fs = blank, Type = Removable, Size=0B, Status = No Media
Volume 3, D, label = "Vista_32_PR", Fs = CDFS, Type = DVD-ROM, Size=2906MB, Status =Healthy
Volume 4, E, label = blank, Fs = blank, Type = Removable, Size=0B, Status = No Media

That is as far as I have managed to get with my very basic knowledge. Any ideas? Thank you for taking the time to read my post and any help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks. The entire PC has stopped sending any output to the monitor. I can hear/see it is on but no output. Might be time to face up to a replacement pc altogether.
Thanks
