Cannot kill cmd.exe window

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.win2000.advanced_server (More info?)

After a DOS window is left open for a long time, one cannot log out,restart or shutdown the system. If you try to end task in Task Manager it will not close. If you look for it in processes, it does not appear.

Any help would be great!
