Cannot OC my phenom 955

Hello u guys, i have a problem about ocing my phenom 955,
when i oc my cpu in bios, the pc wont boot up,
its still wont boot up even if i increases the multiplier in small amount, ie 17=3.4Mhz
btw, i have try using AOD, but my pc wont get pass prime 95 stress test..
btw on 3.2Mhz my idle temp is 42

my full spec:
AMD Phenom II X4 955
MSI 790GX-G65 790GX / Big Thypoon VX
Sapphire HD 4890 1GB OC
Kingston DDR3 1333 2GB X 2

idle temp on a 955 of 42? WAY high.
It should be 32 or below.

you said ur idle temp was 42...that should be ur lowest. 32 degrees or lower i think should be the norm...ur running a non stock cooler as well right?

could be the way you applied your thermal...could be the case ventilation.....id go with thermal paste.

ill let others chime in but my amd phenom ii x4 965 125w idle at stock clock was 27 degrees with coolermaster hyper 212 +...it was hot at first cause i didnt apply paste correctly. Mine is actually still running a little hot in my opinion.

thats deffinately way to hot for idle.. and as far as your overclocking issue.. why are you overclocking in the bios? why not use ati overdrive to monitor your temps and vcore to overclock? i almost have the same specs as you except i have a 785g evo mobo and 4gb ddr3 1333 .. but the gpus a 4890 and the proc. is the same.. i just hit 17891 on 3dmark06.. trust me go with vcore to overclock..

What temp is the room you are in ?? - the idle temp will vary quite a bit depending on the environment the system is in so 42C may be fine if in a pretty warm room - the Load temp will be more important to know whether it is running too hot or not ( Here in Texas during the summer my room temp can get up to around (85 - 90 F ) 30C +\- and an idle temp will then also rise accordingly (would be hard to keep an idle temp of only 2C above ambient !!) - the idle temp is always going to be several degrees over the ambient temp even if you have good air cooling !! -what will make a difference to your system stability is whether the load temp is being handled properly to remove that extra heat above the ambient temp before it gets too high which is where the good cooler comes in to play.

Figure Bit techs testing for coolers shows most decent coolers having a CPU Delta T ( Temp above Ambient ) of around 12 - 15C at idle and 25-30C under load ( LINKIE )

Take your multiplier up all the way, increase your vcore and chipset overvoltage. Make sure you're timming your ram and that your ram's not on auto. if you have your ram on auto then your computer wont boot up, its very important you apply the target spd timings manually.

no dont use amd overdrive to overclock your rig .. just to monitor the temperature.. you get much better control if you use vcore to overclock.. i get to 3.8 easily by setting my multiplier to 19 and my cpu voltage to 1.55 and its simple as that..stable as can be.. personally i dont leave it there.. 3.2 is good enough for me.. but if i wanna run a benchmark test or something ill crank it up n see what i get.. but ya.. stay away from overdrives pre set overclocks..
