Cannot Reach Optimal Setting for Harware

Just built a new pc over the holidays, System setup is as follows



Amd Phenom II 955 BE Deneb 3.2Ghz

Msi 790FX GD70 Motherboard

Ati Sapphire 5870

Corsair DOminator DDR 3 1600 Ram

650 Watt power supply



My question is, why cannot i not reach 1600 ram speeds, Everything is the bios seeems to be running at the slowest possible speeds for my hardware

The Fbs is at 200 And the HT is at 2000, should this not bee at 400 and 4000. i Want to run my comp at the best setting but i refuse to touch voltages without somone who knows about this stuff giving me some tips

Can someone please help me with changing some of these voltages to achieve ddr 3 1600 and a HT of 4000

You cannot just leave everything on AUTO and expect the board to recognize the correct values.

Change your settings to this .....

AMD Cool N Quite Control (Auto) or disabled if you do not want the CPU to downclock at idle

You need set all the specifitacions of your RAM manually in the BIOS. Your mobo set the RAM auto to 1333MHz.

The motherbaord sets the Ram to 1066 auto and i have changed my voltage to 1.6 and 1.8 for the ram at 1600 and it still is unstable

no i dont , im aware this may be the problem however i have never flas\hed a bios before and i dont want to kill my computer .

I agree.

If you're going to tinker with a PC you'd best learn to flash BIOS or buy a Dell and leave everything at stock settings.

Before ever engaging in flashing a BIOS make sure you read, then read again, then when you think you've got it figured out, read again and make sure you do exactly as instructed using the proper file for your motherboard which often means also knowing what revision your motherboard is. Simply knowing what model is often times not enough.

im not a complete noob at pc like i built the thing my self installed windows 7 and stuff, just when it comes to overclocking and flashing the bios, im clueless so maybe ill havta take it to some computer shop or some ***

^You have a MSI mobo, you can download and install Live update, with this you can update you BIOS. I did with this 2 or 3 times without problems.

Have you also checked the timings on the modules and set them to spec also ?? chances are the RAM runs at different timings at 1600 than it would have at 1066 and if the timings defaulted to those for 1066 when it was first loaded as you mention and you left them at those timings and then just changed the speed and voltage the RAM will probably be unstable since the timings are too low.

Yea the ram speeds changed completely when i changed the ram to 1600 or 1333 at 1066 the timings 77720 for 1066 and then 99924 or somthing around the lines at 1333 and im not too sure what the 1600 memory timings are it locks up at 1600 before i can even get Cpu Z open, im thinking that the bios flash is going to solve the problem i just dont know if its safer to use one of msi programs from windows to do it, or if i should buy a usb key and do it straight from the bios, also will, a usb external hardrive be able to store the bios and flash from the bios or do i need a usb key
