Hi there, this is my first time posting here and I am at a roadblock on what I need to fix on my rig if I am having issues running Dota 2 on maxed out settings. My PC specs are as follows:

EVGA GeForce GTX 660
Intel I5-4670K @ 3.40GHz
4.00GB of DDR3 Corsair Ram

If anyone needs more info I'd be happy to leave it here, I'm getting on average 30ish FPS during low intensity happenings on screen and drop down to 14-20ish during high intensity things such as team fights.

Solution
Nothing in his spec holds him back, it's more than what he needs for Dota 2, the problem is probably with the games latest patch.
Your rig is actually overkill for Dota 2, you shouldn't be getting any low fps. Do you have more than 1 monitor? Could be an issue, but still Dota 2 is pretty light game for your system.

Did you try updating your graphic card drivers? Also, is the cooling efficient in your system? Try using a program like SpeedFan to measure the temperatures and see if there is something wrong there.

I'm only running 1 monitor, my drivers are up to date, my system temperature averages at about 35C, I just started messing with overclocking my GPU and I am gaining a ton of performance. Could this be what is wrong?

That could be indeed the issue, clock it back to default and try playing again. Also measure your temperatures while playing, not while being idle.

Does performance drop on other games too? Have you tried playing anything else?

I've tried playing other games such as The Witcher 2 EE and I cannot play it on ultra, but on high with about 40FPS. I don't understand why my card is dragging like this.

First off, don't compare The Witcher 2 with Dota 2. Witcher is more demanding game and playing it on high with 40 fps is probably right (do you have any AA?). Did you try playing dota again without having overclocked your gpu?

Yeah I'm getting like 50ish FPS during downtime and anywhere from 20-30 during high intensity fighting. I've been doing some benchmarks on the Unigine Heaven program, did you want to see some of the results?

You don't have to pay for 3d mark, it has a free version too(that's what i am using), that you can download ether through their site or through steam, by searching for 3d mark on steam and downloading the demo. It does all the tests and you get results like those that i posted above.

Also, that's probably the source of the problem. It was dota 2 all along and if i recall correctly, dota had similar problems again in the past.
