My hp dvd burner and cd-rom do not run after I start windows. The device
manager says that the drivers have been loaded but it cannot locate the
device. I have looked at the bios and the bios seems ok so I think it is a
problem with windows. I tried removing the drives from the device manager but
then it comes up with the same problem when I refresh. If I could get some
help here I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi, S.

Do those drives show up in Disk Management? Did they work before and quit,
or did they never work?

In the Device Manager, click View | Show Hidden Devices. Sometimes old
drivers get disabled but still hang around and interfere with detection and
installation of new drivers. Delete all that you find, then reboot so that
WinXP can detect them again. Sometimes it helps to physically disconnect
the drives and reboot at least once to let WinXP "clear its head" and forget
that it ever had such drives.

Yes the drives did work before. They do not appear in my computer. I tried
viewing hidden devices, but there were no cd drivers hidden.
