Hi guys im trying to shrink my 1 tb hhd which only have 40 gbs in use.
When i try to make s partition of 900 gbs , its just let me pick 450,000 mb , no more than that.

Note: this one have 4 partitions
One of 128 mb ( dont know why )
Boot and stuff (500 mb)
Recovery (450 mb)
And my windows (900+ gb)

This hhd is my backup as when i bought my lalptop thats why i want to leave intact that part just interested in shrink 900 gbs that dont let me.

Thanks so much

Hi

what program are you using to repartition the hard disk?

can you post a picture of the disk management view of the hard disk

are you planning to shrink the main partition so you can create another partition in the free space after the main partition?

IF MBR partition you have a maximum of 4 primary partitions
If you are using GPT partitioning this limit of 4 does not apply.

It tells you on your screenshot why you can't go beyond 407508 MB, it's because of unmovable files on that partition.

It tells you that the available shrink space is limited to 407508 MB if you look at the dialog box, in other words you can't go beyond that.

Read carefully what messages come up (as in your screenshot) when you try to change something - - basically you are striving to do something that Windows cannot do because of existing unmovable data. It's telling you that but you either didn't read it or you don't understand it.

You would have to wipe the entire HDD and create new partitions from scratch just the way you want them (if you think it's worth all that time and effort, or just buy a new drive for more space.).

Did you try to defragment your D: drive?
Defragmenting tries to compact files as well making them less fragmented. After defragmenting you'll be able to shrink your drive to smaller size than before.

Or - you can move all files from D: to some folder in C: , making it empty. Then you'll be able shrink D: to whatever size you want. After that you can move your files back to D: .

Tell us something harvito...

Is there *really* any need for you to shrink that 930 GB partition on your SECONDARY HDD in order to multi-partition that disk-space?

Can't you simply live with that single partition which (presumably) you're using for storage/backup purposes? You have 930 GBs of disk-space at hand; couldn't you organize that single volume of disk-space to accommodate whatever data you desire to be stored there?

Sorry to came late, i was trying to leave the hhd intact just using the most i can for files storage. I installed a new ssd which is small just 250gb and i was trying to let the factory partition of hhd intact becuase im still testing if ssd not fail, you know the hhd have everything as my pc cames. i would like to partition it the most i can. For example let 50 gbs for the recovery partiion and windows and use like 900 for storage. Keeping always the 50 gbs in case i have to clone or do something to make my pc as came.

I see its kind a difficult ill will just test the ssd and when im sure ill format entirely the hhd.

Sorry for my bad english
