I have a homebuilt Windows 7 desktop with an Asrock z87 pro4 motherboard and a hardwired connection to a gigabit switch. I have a linksys e1000 router with factory firmware. I also have a Synology DS212 NAS hooked up to my network and am able to access the NAS remotely using a no-ip dns address and the synology software. I use Norton 360 as my firewall and antivirus. I am trying to setup Wake On Lan on my desktop to turn it on from a powered off state and I am not having much luck with it.
My LAN adaptor is still powered when the system has been shutdown. I apologize if this is long, but I've checked many websites and they offer scattered advice on how to set this up. I've tried everything I could find to get this working.
What I've done so far:
1. Did the following in Router Settings:
a. Assigned static IP address to my desktop pc
b. Set DHCP reservation for above mentioned static IP and MAC address.
c. Registered for a DynDNS.org account (only DNS option for my router)
-In router settings, entered the following
- Username: DynDNS.org Username
-Password: DynDNS.org Password
-Host Name: DynDNS.org ip address
- System: Dynamic
- Mail Exchange: Blank
- Backup MX: Disabled
- Wildcard: Disabled
d. Forwarded Ports 9 and 7 to my static IP address.
2. Did the following on PC Control Panel
a. Use balanced power plan
b. Turn off hybrid sleep
c. In ethernet adaptor settings:
- Power Save Options- the following are checked:
Respond to ARP requests without waking system
Respond to NS requests without waking system
Energy Efficient Ethernet
Reduce link speed during standby
-Wake On LAN - the following are checked:
Wake on Magic Packet
Wake on Pattern Match
Wake on Magic Packet from power off state
Wake on Link Settings
3. In system BIOS:
1. Turned on WOL options.
I was successful in waking my system up last night from power-off state. I tried it from both my home wifi and on my 4g phone and both attempts were successful.
I tried it again today while I was at work over my 4g phone, and it did not work. I use an Android Wake On Lan app and it says that the packets are successful when sent.
Also, when I go directly to my DynDNS.org address, it directs me to my Synology NAS page. I'm not sure why.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I think I've given all of my information, but if I left anything out, please let me know.
