Hello,

I've been playing Battlefield 1 Closed Alpha, and whenever I play on High or better graphics settings, the game crashes and I get the DirectX error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED.

According to research I've done online, this error is caused by an overclocked card or drivers, and my drivers are up to date.

So, I want to underclock my card. I downloaded MSI Afterburner but it does not display my clock speed, only +0. I have a GTX 770 2GB MSI Twin Frozr. It is factory overclocked and I want to underclock it to normal speeds.

According to MSI Afterburner, the GPU clock right now is between 1320 and 1380 idling, while only having Chrome open and typing this post.

According to NVidia, http://www.nvidia.com/gtx-700-graphics-cards/gtx-770/, the base clock for the GTX 770 is 1046. I've tried setting MSI Afterburner Core Clock to -105, the most it can go, to remove the overclock yet nothing happens, even after a restart.

My question is this, how do I lower my clock speed to default and remove the factory OC?

Solution

The error occurs when the game wants more vram than the gpu can offer, so when it passes 2Gb the gpu craps out. Same happens with the 970 4gb but 3.5 is acutally usable.
Have you checked on the card it`s self to see if it has a switch on it for a base setting of clock frequency for the Gpu and memory speed of your card.

On some cards it can have this switch with two states provided by it.

One for the overclocked settings pre programmed for the gpu and memory speeds that are programmed into the bios and selected by what state the switch is set to.

Switch pos 1 : Base default GPU memory settings.
Switch pos 2 : Factory bios gpu and memory overclocked settings Coolsurdy

If it has a switch for two programmed bios states, or settings it will be on the front facing edge of the card as you look at it.
And is very small.

Power the system completely off before you move the switch if the card has one Coolsurdy.

And when you check in windows the clock speed of the gpu and the memory of the graphics card frequency, speed should change or down clock to the settings for none overclocked GTX 770 based cards.

No, there is no switch on the card. I checked it. Is there a way to underclock my GPU using MSI Afterburner?

I also have a gtx 770 and I have that problem, your gpu is dying. Take a look at the baking oven gpu fix, thats how I fixed mine. It's just a temporary fix, but it helps until you have money for a new gpu. And if it dies again, just throw it back in the oven, worked for me

My GTX 770 is not dying. This error only happens when I play the BF1 Closed Alpha. I can play games like CS:GO, Assassins Creed, BF4, and GTA V with no issues. I posted on the BF1 closed alpha forum and they said I need to underclock my CPU. So, do you know a way to underclock it? Thanks
