I'll start by saying i have 2 mx300 ssd's one for os and another for flight sim and other software. i recently installed train simulator from steam and after that i noticed the drive was not acting right, slow loading games, pc would freeze and i would have to restart. i finally decided screw it and used crucial storage manager to sanitize drive and start over, now nothing will install on the ssd,i cannot update the firmware as it says the drive has stopped the process. i cannot even run a benchmark on the drive as i get an error that file is being used by another process. my other mx300 with the os on it has been fine updated and benchmarked with no problem. i have tried to use chkdsk, diskpart and partiton wizard and nothing seems to be helping. i have installed prepar3d on my other harddrive and it installed fine, when i go to insatall anything on the mx300 different errors pop up at different times. this is my last resort before i contact crucial for an RMA if someone can help it would be greatly appreciated. just to add crucial storage manager has the disk listed as being okay. Thank You in advance for your time

Hey there DannyB.

Perhaps the only thing left for you to try is to connect the drive via a different port and/or cables, to see if the same thing happens. Having in mind everything else you've already tried, if that doesn't help, I'd say that you go for the RMA process. However you could still check the SSD;s smart data via a diagnostic tool, to see what's the situation with it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Boogieman,

Spoke to crucial tech support and the guy said to unplug the sata cable from the drive and leave power to it and the PC on 6-8 hours. he said it should reset the drive to healthy state or something to that affect. They said if it doesnt work to call back for a replacement so we'll see what happens. I'll tell you what though with these SSD's my 840 evo crapped out on me after 3 years, know i'm having problems with this one after only 3 months... But my WD 1TB HDD has been going strong for 5+ years without a hiccup!! :)

I'm really glad to hear that everything's going great with your WD drive. 😀
As for the issue at hand with the SSD, it's really good that you'll be able to get it replaced if the power cycle does not fix things up. Hopefully you don't have to go through the RMA process, but it's better than to be left with no drive at all. :)
With old drives it's not a bad idea to check them out once in awhile, just to make sure that everything is working properly. Of course that does not mean that you should not keep regular backups of valuable data which you can't replace. It's always better to be safe than sorry. 😉
