canon error "scangear is currently open"

i'm trying to install a canon aio network printer on win 8.1 but keep getting "scangear is currently open" and cant run the install.
i stopped all processes in task manager that might be connected but no dice.
any advice?

Have you tried to run the installer as Admin? also, check in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and see if there is a Scangear Application installed and if so, uninstall it before attempting to install the drivers.

Windows may have tried to install its own version of the drivers if the device was connected and powered up before you attempted to install the manufacturers drivers.

there is nothing from canon or scangear installed in my computer.

i tried as admin but same problem.
