Ive been printing mainly cdr's but some photos and some text.

The small black cartridge is nearly empty whereas the large one is hardly
used.

Can anyone tell which black it uses for what and when?

Small tank is BCI-6 black for photo prints, and is used any time you select
photo papers or disc printing.
Large tank is BCI-3bk for text/graphics and is used when you select
non-photo papers.

I have been printing with the selection set to plain paper. Plain paper
would 'always' use the large black tank?.
If you are sure this is right, then maybe my cdr's have used more black
than i
thought.

disc printing uses a lot of ink, in my experience, similar to high-res
photos

Would setting the properties to print "text" override the graphics use
in printing the CDs?

I only have a non-CD printing but the default is to use "text" both
sides & when I need to do graphics, I go into the properties &
change/unmark the color/graphics mode.

The BCI 3eBbk is used for text when you select plain paper for
printing. For other paper selelctions the BCI6 black is used.
