Canon s5 autofocus is suddenly turning EVERY photo dark.

We're on a long trip amd taking lots of photos. Suddenly, with the camera set on auto as always, as soon as the frame is in focus, the frame goes mich darker, regardless of how much ligjt may be available, always resulting in a too dark picture, even without any shade. Battery change made no difference.
What is this and how can we correct? Could we have hit a button or changd a setting be mistake? Basically anything we try to take now is useless.

You are right! Something has changed! Hope it is a setting and not a camera failure.

This could happen if the ISO setting is too low and the camera is set to Auto.

Go to the 'Menu' and RESET everything to factory settings
