It was suggested that I should have asked my question here instead of where I did, so here goes again, sorry.
Turned off my computer with everything ok. Next time I turned it on The black screen with notation saying to hit F2 or Del to go into bios and then froze. Now, every time I boot the same thing happens. The screen freezes and it takes a minute to eventually boot from this screen into Windows 7 Pro without ever letting me go into the bios to get out of the problem. After it finally boots to the desktop it then takes about another minute for the mouse to unfreeze and start to work (mouse is wireless). I have not made any changes to my computer recently. It is really frustrating! The build is around 4 years old. Below are the specs on this machine. Windows did add one of their "important" updates the other day (KB4503548) which is Microsoft.net framework 4.8 for windows 7 for 64. It was listed as installing successfully but still lists it in my updates each time to be installed as if it weren't already installed - it is the same KB number of the one installed. I did change out the MOBO battery which didn't make any difference and cleared the CMOS. Thanks in advance for any help someone might be able to offer.

Couple things to try.
  1. Remove everything from USB ports except keyboard and mouse. If it is the same, remove mouse too. Leave keyboard in.
  2. When you turn on PC, hold down as many keys as you can on keyboard. 8-10 should suffice. BIOS thinks something is wrong and should give you an error screen where you press F1 or similar.
  3. Nuke and pave.
PS: I doubt you have a 60 w PSU.

Thank you, I'll give it a try. you're right about the PSU wattage. Some place in the shuffle the "5" was lost. Actually it is an Antec 650 (Earthwatts). I am not sure I understand what "pave" means in your directions.

SOLVED: No joy from the 10 finger try out. However, after what seemed an eternity I did finally chase down the problem. My external backup drive is dying. When I unplugged it every thing went back to normal. Booting is fine, no freezing in Windows etc. Everything is copacetic again. Thanks
