Cant access datas from my 1TB external HDD

What can i do if the external hdd doesnt give any option either to open nor to do anything,alsp it appers different from its name?

when i plug it,it takes some minutes to appear with different name

is it self powered or has a mains adaptor?

when it appears what happens when you try to open it?

and is the name made up of nonsense characters?

that sometimes happens with faulty drives

ie instead of being seagate its like $"&(%86ctgh

and do you have important data on it?
