I have this weird problem, where i am able to see the external harddrives/usbs in the device manager, but i'm not able to see them under my computer, or anywhere else. Things i've tried:
Deleting/uninstalling the driver for the drive. When plugging the drive in again, it seems like the driver is installing fine, and the progress looks like it will work. But it doesn't! and a couple seconds later the drive is in the device manager again, with no correct driver installed.
Deleting/uninstalling the driver for all the usb ports
Assigning a drive letter - i can't see them there.

I'm attempting this on an Acer 3820tg Laptop, and the drives are of the AS2105 kind.

Do you have driver signing check turned on? Are these unsigned drivers? If these are in fact from the manufacturer and you have driver signing turned on, turn it off and see if it will allow it to install.

Yeah - no difference.. The driver doesn't even get installed. It looks like it is installing it, and everything is working beautifully, but then the driver doesn't "stick"

Yeah - they work perfectly fine there.
Another werd thing about this, is how i can transfer files to my phone without any problem through the usb-ports.. So frustrating!

Hey - i regret bumping the thread, but this is really a big problem for me. It's eally puzzling for me, why the Drivers won't "stick".
I've borrowed a bunch of different usb-sticks, but it's the same story. The driver begins installing, and it looks like everything is working fine, but then it doesn't show up at all, except in device manager.

A few months ago, Microsoft released some patches that basically blocked certain drivers from installing. I realized this was the case when I tried installing new drivers for my GPU. Kept failing. Located a forum that explained that the MS patches came out like a day before the new GPU drivers were released. Had to uninstall the MS patches, install the GPU drivers, and then reinstall the MS patches.
