Can't add or delete files on Toshiba portable drive

I have a 1TB drive. I can move files to my desktop, but I can't delete them from the drive. And, I can't put any new files on the drive. I still have 967 GB left, so that is not the problem. I wanted to delete folders and use the drive for something else, but I can neither delete nor add. I'm using a Mac. Please help.

Ok seems a problem of partition type. What is your external hard drive file system (NTFS, Mac Extended, FAT etc...)
Go to Disk Utility and select your drive, see what it says under "partition map".

If this is NTFS this is the problem.

I just checked and it IS NTFS. Hmmm. Sorry, I don't know anything about this. I don't even know where this drive came from, but would like to use it on my Mac. Is it possible to change it to what I need?

Also, I'm fine with deleting everything on it to restart in a different format.

No worries...kind of things that happens. I think there is a fix for Mac so it can read and write on NTFS drive...Google it and you will find something simple to make it work
