Question Can't back up ?

I got an external My Passport HDD for backup but I can't get the included backup software to work (I had the exact same issue with WD a few years ago too). I got on their forums but with no answers.
So I configured Windows 10 to automatically backup to this. It doesn't. I double checked, triple checked that it is indeed programmed to back up to this thing - but it doesn't. Any clues?

Windows backup is all but dead, there are many other even free backup programs.

The software that came with Passport is the last thing I would consider using.

Windows Backup would be the next to the last thing I would consider.

Is there any reason you feel compelled to use either of them? You mention being disappointed by WD software years ago.

Assuming the Passport drive is at least recognized, I'd do a simple drag and drop as a starting point. Much better than nothing.

Then possibly progress to some other probably free software package if necessary.

Which software you might gravitate toward could easily depend on what you are trying to "back up". Your personal data?? Your Windows installation? Both?
