Question Can't boot laptop with HDD in caddy ?

I bought a crucial 200 gb ssd and placed in hp laptop main slot. The laptop had a 1tb Toshiba hdd so I placed this HDD in a caddy and placed the caddy in the cd-rom bay. The laptop get's stuck at the loading screen and can't get past it so I tried these troubleshooting steps:

• removing the caddy from the laptop (successfully booted from the ssd)
• switching the two disks ( successfully booted from hdd)
• ssd in main drive slot and a different hdd in caddy ( successfully booted from ssd and was able to detect and read files from hdd)
• deleting the windows,UEFI and recovery partition from the hdd and placing hdd in caddy ( still stuck at the loading screen )
• booting ubuntu from a stick worked fine and managed to detect both disks

Update: I also tried formatting the Disk on another pc and putting it back in the laptop the laptop booted and everything but couldn't access the disk
